The plainest cap we make. A single word, twelve millimetres high, embroidered on the left panel and nowhere else — a size that takes as long to digitise as a large design, because at that scale each letter is only a few stitches wide and the file has to be redrawn until the counters stay open. Brushed cotton twill, low crown, flat under-visor in a contrasting tone. It is meant to be worn until the colour goes, which is roughly the point at which it starts looking right.
The story
In a sound system dance, a forward is the crowd’s verdict: hands up, noise up, and the selecta hauls the record back to the top. It is not applause after the fact — it is an interruption, given while the tune is still playing, and it has to be earned in the first sixteen bars. The word sits small on the side of the head because that is roughly where you hear it coming from.
